ISMAIL MERCHANT AWARD FOR PRODUCER

Ismail Merchant {December 25, 1936 -May 25, 2005 }
He worked for many years in collaboration with Merchant Ivory Productions which included director James Ivory as well as screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. Their films won six Academy Awards for The Remains of the Day (1993), A Room with a View (1985) and Howards End (1992).
Merchant succeeded as an independent producer in Hollywood for more than 40 years and also directed few feature films like In Custody, Cotton Mary and Mystic Masseur.
In 2002, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the government of India.
